Third Watch

Welcome to Third Watch Server Monitoring System.

Third Watch Server Monitor will allow you to monitor all of your critical servers and services on an IP network and be notified of any changes in their status. It is a server monitoring program using TCP/IP. It can monitor via Ping, HTTP, FTP or any other TCP/IP port. It will log all status changes and can also run programs or send email on each status change. Straight forward monitoring. Most network admins and/or software developers that are responsible for maintaining servers/server applications want to know if it's up, down or slow. Everything else is extra. These are their core concerns, and this it what Third Watch gives them at a reasonable price. I have found this utility very useful and I believe you will too. It has saved us from network outages several times. It's nice to know your server or application is down before you customers/employees do and get it back up before they notice.

Services
You can monitor your servers using the following services:

• Ping (Port 7)
• HTTP (Get)
• FTP (Get)
• Open Port (Check to see if a service is listening on a given port)

Status
Monitor status is based on a traffic light scheme:

• Green = Good
• Yellow = Average
• Red = Bad

Statuses are based on response times from your servers. You define the maximum response time for a good status, and a responsetime for a timeout.
A good status is defined as anything equal to or below your maximum good response time.
An average status is anything over you maximum good response time but not a timeout.
A bad status is defined as a timeout (no response) from you server.

*Note: You can receive a response time that is greater than your defined timeout. This is due to the server responding before the defined timeout but the response data taking longer to come in.

Alerts
You can have the systems run any program, sending any number of parameters as input based on a status changed. I have included an email program so that you can send yourself an email in the event of a status change.

Logs
All status changes can also be logged, giving you valuable uptime reports.
