Transforming the data

DataSlave provides a graphical tool to import, validate, transform and export data.

At all times the data can be reviewed in the data panel showing rows that pass validation and those that fail.

Any column can be validated to check for example:

The customer ID is in range
The Contact Name is valid
The Region is not missing
The ZIP code is of correct format
The Phone and Fax numbers are correctly formatted

Data can be mapped onto the fields of your database and where required transformed.

In this case the Contact Name is split into separate Firstname and Lastname fields.

DataSlave is extensible allowing users to build data validation using regular expressions or VBScript.

If one of the very large number of standard functions do not meet your needs do not worry. If you do not have the skills to extend DataSlave do not worry.

Extending DataSlave to meet your requirements

DataSlave^™ can be extended by making use of regular expressions, Java script or VB script to carry out a function not included as standard. While DataSlave has a very extensive set of validation and transformation functions available as standard you may have a need to check or adjust data in a way that is special to your business.

To cater with this situation DataSlave is designed to allow additional validation and data transformations to be added by the user. This does require a little more expertise and to help users who do not feel able to carry out this task we offer DataSlave Services.

Email us sample data and a description of the data check or transformation you require and for a small fee we will build the facility for you. The normal charge is $80.00 for each additional function, but we will provide a fixed price for you before we proceed. We deliver back your converted data sample for you to confirm the function meets your requirements and a simple set of instructions to allow you to import the new function into your copy of DataSlave. Nothing could be simpler.

Please note that DataSlave Services are only available with DataSlave Pro

System Requirements

DataSlave^™ is built using Microsoft's latest .NET technology. This enables us to build a feature rich and high performance package for our users, taking advantage of the latest developments at Microsoft.

The minimum requirements for DataSlave is:

Windows 2000 or XP
Pentium III (Pentium 4 recommended)
256 MB RAM (512 MB recommended)
40 MB of free disk space
.NET Framework 1.1*

*Microsoft .NET Framework may already be installed on your machine as it is increasingly used by the latest software and now forms an optional part of the Windows Update. If the .NET Framework it is not installed on your PC the DataSlave install will download it from Microsoft's web site. You can also find the install on your Windows XP CD ROM and on magazine covers.
