Video

Most Video for Windows capture cards are based on either the BrookTree bt848 or the BrookTree bt878 devices.  The Image Capture control should function perfectly well with any capture card based on the BrookTree devices, or indeed any Video For Windows compliant device.  This should include all VfW compliant USB Cameras.  However, All House Access has only tested a limited number of capture cards.  These are:

Reliability

• All House Access  was built with Microsoft Visual C++ for better code efficiency, and doesn't require extra dll’s (dynamic link library).

Usability

• Views are designed to show as many modules, events, or logs as possible, giving the user instant status.
• You can popup an individual satellite module control for easy access without cluttering up your screen.
• All House Access  uses Microsoft Agent, which are interactive characters that can listen and speak to you. All House Access  uses the Agent to announce events, new mail, and the current time. Events can also be triggered with voice commands. All House Access  includes the "Peedy" character. Other characters are available on the internet for free on Microsoft’s web site.
• You can put the Microsoft Agent characters in "Always Listen" mode and you do not have to use the keyboard to make the character listen.

Events/Macros

• Adding the available Winamp plug-in, you can control Winamp or even have events based on what song Winamp is playing. This gives you the ability to change the mood of a room based on the song that is playing.  
• With the help of caller ID modem, you can now create events based on who is calling you.
• You can create simple routines, without having to be a programmer, with the simple event editor.
• Time, date, X10 command, voice commands, sunrise/sunset, and various other conditions may trigger events.
• Case statements include: X10 dim state, time, date, weekday, month, sunrise/sunset, or else, sleep, and wait until to give you more decision power.
• Actions include: controlling X10 modules, launching applications, sending Email to an SMTP (Send Mail Transport Protocol) Server, playing a sound, capturing an image, popup a message, and jump to line # to give you many of choices for easy control.

Flexible

• All House Access  has added the ability to allow you to add scripts for an event which allows flexibility.
• Support for import and export was added to allow sharing of scripts.
• For the most advanced user, All House Access  will accept plug-ins.  By accepting plug-ins, this will help speed up development for supporting more features and devices. This will also give the user more choices of what features they would like to use.

Web Server

• Built-in web server allows you to view and control your X10 devices, review your log files, monitor your streaming video, and read your email via your home network or the internet.
• If you have a Video Capture card or other video sources, All House Access  can display streaming images via your home network or the internet using a web browser. Plug-ins for your browser are not required.
• You may also control your devices using your hand held device, like your wireless phone, palm pilot, or any thing that supports hdml.
• Ability to custom design your control interface web pages by inserting special tags into your HTML file to show your modules, events, logs, and etc.
• Built in web server has the ability to support CGI Scripts by using Perl scripts, batch files, and executable files.
• Secure password protected, user selected web directories.
• You may modify the style sheet to customize the look and fill of the current web pages.

Video

• If you have a Video Capture card or other video sources, All House Access  can display streaming images via your home network or the internet using a web browser. No Plug-in required.
• All House Access  can capture jpg snapshots from the capturing device whenever an events occur.
• All House Access can also capture images and save them to an avi file whenever an event occurs.
• All House Access support MPEG ENCODING (COMPRESSION) by selecting the installed codec that is installed on your machine so that you can get compressed avi files to help save on disk space.
• All House Access can also DETECT MOTION from your video device, so you do not need to install a motion sensor to start an event.

IP Post

• Ability to post your dynamic IP address on your external web site to help you easily link directly to your PC, even if you have to go through a router box.
• Supports Dynamic DNS, allowing you to alias a dynamic IP address to a static hostname, allowing your computer to be more easily accessed from various locations on the internet.

Email

• Ability to check your Email in your POP3 mail account, and display how many messages you have, and the total size.
• Module commands may be embedded in Email messages. This allows you to send an Email home to turn modules on and off.

Advanced Log Files

• Detailed log files are organized to give more meaning.

How does All House Access control your home environment?
All House Access uses the X10 technology to control devices. All House Access talks to an X10 PowerLinc or CM11A Computer Interface through the serial port, then the PowerLinc or CM11A sends a command over the existing house wiring to the device you wont to control.

What is X10?
X10 has been around since the early 80's, and was distributed by such consumer electronics stores as Radio Shack. Now a full range of X10 products are available that let you control your home in every fashion., including  lights, appliances, security systems, sprinklers, timers, garage doors, and other kits, X10 is a popular home automation solution.

X10 is a communications "language" that allows compatible products to talk to each other via the existing 110V electrical wiring in the home. No costly rewiring is necessary. Up to 256 different addresses are available. If you want more than one device to respond to the same signal, simply set them to the same addresses. All X10 compatible products can be freely mixed and matched - Use SwitchLinc together with X10, etc.

Is X10 expensive?
That is the extraordinary thing about X10, it is not expensive at all. Most modules do not cost more that $10.00 each. For around $1000 you can have a really nice setup, versus a couple of 30K-50K for a wired house that has the equivalent setup. The other nice thing is that you do not have to go out and buy devices all at once.  You can add on to your collection at your own rate
